In Moonbase Alpha, multiple players need to collaborate in order to repair various equipment destroyed in a meteor strike. Although intended as a tech demo, the game became very popular on the internet, especially amongst younger players.
In 2010, Moonbase Alpha received the I/ITSEC awards for Serious Games Showcase Winner and Challenge Winner for Best Government Game.
In 2011, the game received the NASA Group Achievement Award.
